Recovery / Peer Support
Some of the words used by medical institutions have their origins in disability activism. Such is the case with the concepts of recovery and peer support, which have gradually been appropriated and integrated into the normative regime of care. This would be welcome if the adoption of these words were accompanied by reforms that were indeed more focused on patients’ points of view. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case, and while the vocabulary may be changing, some of the hierarchies between caregivers and patients remain.
