Femmes entre guerres et paix
Cet article examine, dans le cadre de l’histoire récente, les positions des femmes face à la guerre et à la paix, celles qu’on leur attribue idéologiquement, celles qu’elles subissent malgré elles, dans leurs implications volontaires ainsi que dans leurs engagements militants au sein d’une multitude d’organisations qui ont changé de nature avec la fin de la guerre froide. L’auteure rappelle que les femmes ne sont pas des pacifistes par essence, mais plutôt des humains comme les autres, opposés à la guerre et œuvrant à la pacification du monde dans un contexte de plus en plus favorable à la guerre, qui exalte le virilisme et a enterré l’objection de conscience. L’unité et la solidarité de femmes de camps politiquement adverses constituent la face aujourd’hui dominante de leurs combats dans nombre de conflits comme celui, exemplaire, qui oppose le gouvernement israélien aux Palestiniens et réunit juives, musulmanes et non croyantes.
Women between War and Peace
This article examines, in the context of recent history, women’s positions on war and peace, both those attributed to them ideologically and those they have to endure in spite of themselves, in their voluntary involvement as well as in their militant commitments within a multitude of organizations that have changed in nature with the end of the Cold War. The author reminds us that women are not pacifists in essence, but rather human beings like any others, opposed to war and working to pacify the world in a context increasingly favorable to war, which exalts virilism and has buried conscientious objection. The unity and solidarity of women from politically opposing camps is the dominant face of their struggles today in many conflicts, such as the exemplary one between the Israeli government and the Palestinians, which brings some women together, Jews, Muslims and non-believers alike.
